Fun, food and fancy dress at The Winking Prawn restaurant by the sea in Salcombe

If your idea of fun is being treated to an adlib piano concerto by a dashing young gentleman in a frilly pink swimming costume, The Winking Prawn restaurant on the beach in Salcombe is most definitely for you. Decorated in soft pastel colors with shells and other seaside regalia dangling from the rafters, this place represents British summer holiday boho chic at its very best.

The staff are all super charming, the seaside setting is perfect and the food is deliciously fresh and locally sourced. I love the cracked Devon crab and am totally addicted to the Elmhurst brie, produced just down the road on the award-winning Sharpham Estate.

You can always rely on this Salcombe institution to provide the ingredients for a fun fuelled evening. Perfect for large groups or romantic twosomes, the contents of the legendary fancy dress box never fail to provide great entertainment for ‘children’ of all ages. Alternatively, if you are after a more impromptu feast, take a break from the beach and sample their tasty BBQ – served up from 4pm to 9pm each day during the summer months.
